Jeweled Dream Shaker Card - In A Sweet Pea Dream -- Anything At All -- Challenge # 7

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with lots of crafty goodies for all of you. I loved this challenge!! This image, Jeweled is one that as soon as I saw it I had to have it.   I had the idea to make her into a shaker card just to do something different because she is just too cool!! I colored her with watercolor pencils and then she is glittered with pearlescent glitters from Stampendous. I made a second image of her and colored and glittered it then popped her up to make her really stand out and added all the jewels by hand. The oval shaker is from Scotch products. Inside the shaker are multi-colored metallic beadies and confetti glitter (see pics). I glued fused green metallic pearls on the outside of the shaker to accent it. To finish I used pearlscent papers and some black glittered designs and jewels and a class-a peels butterfly strip on each side of the shaker. I noticed you can see some of the glue on the top, that will dry clear like the rest ... I wanted to get this in before the deadline otherwise I would have waited for it all to dry.  Hope you like her and thanks for looking :)

Cute Christmas Shaker Tags & Jewel :)

I decided besides just making cards this year I would make some shaker tags that you could actually hang for decoration too. I sprayed a chipboard tag with glimmer spray then I outlined it with a gel or glitter marker and added my gems and fused pearls around the shaker. (Yes, all the stars and gems were glued on by hand LOL )  To finish I added ribbon and lace to the top of the tag and on some a big crystal brad.  Scotch makes these great little display boxes that make it easy to make these little shakers.  They even include patterns inside for you. One thing I have learned that I will pass on though is that after you put down your bottom layer inside I would recommend using some metallic cord and gluing it really good around the insides of your shaker so that no little beads or glitter can get behind your images and mess things up. (big mess - had it happen and if you are a perfectionist like me you will tear it apart and re-do it ... this saves you from having to do that)  I use The Ultimate Glue from Stuff By David http://stores.ebay.com/stuffbydavid  (he  also sells the stars, beads and glitter I used on these tags)  This glue is strong, holds well and dries clear. I use a combination of  glitter and micro beads for the inside of the shaker and use the same glue to glue it shut, then I let it dry overnight.  I hope you enjoy these and maybe even try to make some.  I plan on making some larger ones and will share them when they are done. Thanks for looking :)   I also added Jewel in here since she looked so cute sleeping on her little baby :)

Christmas Cards, Pups & A Heater

I have been busy working on my cards all week and I decided to share a couple of them. The Snoopy one at the bottom is actually a shaker tag. (Kyla loves to test these out for me lol) I am also including a picture of some of the pups ... it was only 27 degrees here in Florida the one morning and they have all been in the craft room with me crowding around the extra little heater I have in there as you see in the picture.  Hope you enjoy them and thanks for looking :)

Cute Little Medicine Cup Ornaments & More

I decided to share these cute little medicine cup ornaments I made.  I have been getting more in the Christmas spirit... I think it has something to do with this cold weather here in Florida.  I actually found one of these in a thrift store and thought it was a cool idea.  I had the medicine cups in my stash and some nice little miniature trees and figures that would fit inside the cups.  You have to carefully drill a hole in the top of the cup just enough to put a string through. ( I used my dremel, it only takes a few seconds)  The next thing I did was punch out 2 circles to fit the bottom of the cup... you glue them together to make them sturdier than one alone.  Then you can thread your bead through the end and knot it on the inside of the cup and slide one on the outer side for decoration as well. (see pics)  After this step I see where to position my trees or people ... whatever you are going to put on the inside of the cup.  I chose a tree and a figure for all of mine. I took little seed or silver beads and decorated the trees before I glued them down. Then I glued down the figure and put some snow on them.  When I was ready to finish I piled a bunch of snow in the middle and then put a big layer of glue around the outside of the cup and placed it down on the punched out circle to finish.  You will probably have to wipe around the outside and have to hold the string when your are doing this last part.  When it was dry I glued a thin strip of ribbon around the outside.  I think these make a cute project and are even a good one for a little older kids to do.  Hope you like these and if you have a question just post it and I'll get back to you. Thanks for looking :)  I am going to post some of the other little things I made too. One is a plexiglass glitter ornament (my mom scooped her up) and I made a bunch of pin~up girl shaker magnets.

True Blue Rose Tattoo - In A Sweet Pea Dream -- Monochromatic -- Challenge # 6

Hi ~ I had more fun with this one than I thought I would.  I was thinking it would be hard to do all one color but it actually all came together pretty well.  I did the usual -- pearlescent  chalked background and watercolor penciled the image which is the beautiful Blue Rose Tattoo.  I used Stuff By David's glitter in Midnight Blue on her tail, body and roses, Laser Blue on the other parts of her tail and body and Metallic Sky Blue on her hair and the leaves and vines.  Here is the link for his store Stuff By David he has lots of other cool stuff too. :)   I also used a ultra fine pastel blue glitter by Stampendous on her hair as the main color. I then took my glimmer sprays and dyed the white roses I had sapphire blue to match the blue roses in my image. Once they dried I glued them on. I added the little jewels for her earrings and bracelet. I sprayed a paper doily with a different glimmer spray and added that to the card.  To finish I added the rhinestone swirls, rhinestones, butterflies, and the other blue roses.  Hope you like her and thanks for looking :)

Merry Season Ornament

Hi,
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving but now the countdown and rush for Christmas begins.  I made this ornament for Sweet Pea Stamps Christmas Gift Contest.  I decided to make an ornament from 2 pieces of plexi glass. I used Staz ~ On Jet Black Ink to stamp the pretty Merry Season image on the plexi glass and I decorated it all from behind with glitter and used glass paints for her skin tone. I then put metallic blue paper in between the plexi glass sheets and glued them together, but I also added snowflakes and glitter to the back of the ornament before I finished gluing it. I then added the pearls for bubbles to the front to give it dimension. (Usually I have the ink side facing outward but I have been finding with making my key chains that even that can rub off so I that is why I decided to do it the opposite way.) To finish it I added the pretty white organza ribbon to hang it from. (You might see that some of the glue was not quite dry or cloudy in the pic... that is one drawback to making these sometimes it takes quite awhile for the glue to dry.)  I hope you like it. :)

~ Pin-Up Girl Christmas Ornament Tags ~

Today I thought I would share my Christmas pin-up girl tags and how they were made since it is getting close to Christmas.  I took a larger size chipboard book and just took it apart -- very easy since it was only together with a key ring lol --  I then have 5 large chipboard tags to decorate... sometimes these are just as nice to give out as cards especially if you have a lot of people to give to.  I usually take my glimmer sprays and spray all 5 different colors and let them dry.  While they're drying I decide what is going to be the main image of the tag.  For the first tag I used Gumdrop spray and Gil Elvgren's  image ~ A Christmas Eve (Waiting for Santa) - I hand glued the crystals in red, green and gold all the way around the ornament shape and then put the image on and placed the 2 crystal stars in the corners.  I then brushed on the glitter in red and green on the rest of the ornament and after that placed the "Joy" and "Unwrap the magic of the season" sentiments on.  The last step is picking out ribbon and fibers for the top and placing them through. After they are through I always add a decorative brad like the red jewel one in this tag.

For the next tag it was sprayed with Pearl spray and the image used was also by Gil Elvgren it is ~ Out in the cold my tale's told.  I glued white, light blue and dark blue crystals around this ornament added the image and then put 2 blue crystal stars on the corners. Then I brushed on glitter in light and dark blue with some iridescent mixed in added the snowflakes and the "Let it snow" sentiment.  I also added a little joy charm in the top space of the ornament on this one. I finished by putting the ribbons and fibers through and adding a blue jewel brad.

These are fun to do and they make nice gifts or decorations ... hope you like them and thanks for stopping and looking :)

Butterfly & Flower Enchantment - In A Sweet Pea Dream - - Flowers - - Challenge # 5

This card is very special it was made for my mom's birthday which is today and I had it done but couldn't unveil it until now.. since I just gave her the card.  I really went wild with this one and did a lot.  As usual the background was done in glimmer chalks and the image which is the gorgeous Fox Allure was colored in watercolor pencils.  I glittered her hair in Art glitter's - Sugar Plum Fairy and the trim and design on her outfit plus the sticks in her hair were done with Hot Kiss also by Art Glitter. Her dress itself was done in a teal pearl glitter by Stampendous. I also added touches of this color to her hair.  Next I took a black glitter pen and traced over the tree limbs and vines to bring out more definition to them.  I added the silver leaves from a string of them that I cut apart and I just glued them each on separately. I then added the butterflies which were actually sequins that I just folded and glued on.  For the fox I used whited fun flock to give him a nice realistic look. I used my black glitter pen and my white gel pen on the fox's eyes and nose to bring them out more. I decided I wanted to do the opposite of what I did last time with the triangles so I picked an oriental themed background paper and then put a teal ribbon down and added a white with silver trim ribbon to the top of it.  Then I decided to mat the image on pink metallic pearl paper followed by silver mirror paper and aqua glitter paper to finish it. I then made another mat of the pink and silver paper to go the opposite way to give the design some flow. After all that I punched out the butterflies in each corner.  Then I added the paper roses and prima flowers and punched out butterflies and added sequin butterflies to match.  Lastly I added the "Enchantment" style stone. The inside design followed the theme and was pretty simple as you can see from the pic.  I am really happy with how this turned out... I thought maybe I did too much but I really liked it once it was all together.  I hope you like it too.  Thanks for looking :)

Midnight Waiting In Purple - In A Sweet Pea Dream -- Fantasy -- Challenge # 4

I had lots of fun with this one ... since I used all kinds of glitter (which as you know by now I love - lol)  I used the lovely image Midnight Waiting and decided to go with mostly purples for her.  I colored the background with my glimmer chalks and went over the tree branches with a black glitter pen. This image was actually stamped in Royal Purple - Staz-On ink.  She was colored with watercolor pencils and then glittered with metallic purple from  Stuff By David on her outer wings and parts of her hair -- awesome color.  I also used a mixed blue and dark purple glitter for her hair -- no name on this one, and a silver and blue mixed glitter to highlight parts of her dress -- no name on this one either.  The moon is a very fine iridescent white from Michael's and the inner wings are Martha Stewart's tinsel / leaf glitter in charoite. The beads in her hair are opalescent and the background paper is handmade with my Tattered Angels Glimmer Sprays and I also used my Fiskars celestial corner punch on this piece.  I decided to do the triangles just to try a different layout.  Hope you like her and Thanks for looking :)

Emerald Eyes -- In A Sweet Pea Dream -- Christmas -- Challenge # 3

For this challenge I used a stamp I wouldn't normally use for Christmas... I used the Purple Hearts image which is perfect for Valentine's Day.  I put my own spin on it for Christmas and I really like how it came out.  I knew it was good when I showed it to my daughter Kyla and she didn't say anything right away she was just looking at it.  : )   Okay now the card info. As usual  I did the background with my pearlescent chalks and colored the image with watercolor pencils.  The glitter used on this one was Art institute in Cranberry (flowers, hair) ~ Apple (dress, hair) ~ Old Gold ~ Mustard (mask, wings) ~ Autumn (hair).  Stuff by David ~ Salmon Laser (inner wings).  I also added crystal hearts and rhinestones. The big red and green Gumdrops (I like to call them that, since that is what they look like) are from Martha Stewart.  Hope you enjoyed her and thanks for looking :)

Toil & Trouble -- In A Sweet Pea Dream - Colors - Challenge # 2

Today I really am proud of myself because the challenge called for us to use the colors green, orange or purple. I started out thinking I would just use purple but then I ended up using all 3 so that was a big change for me !!!  The image I used was Misty Reflections (which I think is perfect for Halloween) I used my shimmer chalks on the background and colored her in with watercolor pencils. The moon was glittered with Art Glitter in Melone, Orange Crush and Lemone . The witchy girl's outfit was glittered with violet laser and her hair was done with Art Glitter in Black and Atlantis. I used a black glitter gel pen to outline the leaves and details in her hat and gloves. All the crystals used as stars are swarovski crystals. The clusters of crystal were from Mark Richards I just cut them apart and rearranged them. I also added the other little rhinestones in the main photo. The lace hearts were sprayed with Fully Purple Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. The heart strip is from K& Co. and the Toil & Trouble is from Making Memories. (I think that should be her two cats names LOL !!! ) Hope you enjoyed looking at her : D

Crystals

Wow !! It's been awhile since I've been here ... my grandfather has been down to visit for the last 2 weeks and he is going to be here for another week.  We have been enjoying our time with him since he lives up in PA.  I wanted to talk about another accent you can use on cards that I use a lot and that is crystals --- more pretty stuff LOL !!! I used them as stars on the card below, but they can be used in a lot of different ways... for flower centers, for your mermaids and sea cards, on tags as an outline (I will include my halloween tag pics) and many more ways. They are also easy to put on. I use a glue pen, place a dot of glue and put the crystal on. The swarovski crystals are the best, in my opinion.  They are what I used on the card below. They just have a better shine to them and are a much better quality then the regular crystals. If you have a chance to compare the swarvoski crystals to the regular crystals you can really see the difference. Jolee's and other companies now carry crystals by swarovski that you can get at reasonable prices. You can also find them here along with lots of other great items  Stuff By David   I just wanted to point out this is another good accent you can use on your cards.   Hope you like the examples.  : D

Mermaids go well with glitter

I was just thinking about all of the mermaid images I have done and how easily it is to use glitter with them.  I love the ocean ~ it is so calm and beautiful ... peaceful so I suppose that is why I am drawn to all the mermaid images.  I love decorating them because you can really make them any colors you like and the shading on them is easy to do.  Plus I get to add all my other little detail elements that I love such as : my tiny beads, glitter roxs, tinsel glitter, shells, starfish, netting in shimmer colors and lots more.  In other words I get to relax and play lol !!

The card I have chosen is one I made awhile ago. (still working on some -- in between my grandfather visiting and Dr. appt. today) The image is from Third Coast Rubber Stamps and if you have never been there then you need to go over here to http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/  to check out all there great stamps !!  Her name is Maura mermaid and she is one of my favorite images.  I used some really cool metallic purple cut out stuff that was on a roll in the background and then I added some pretty silver netting with shells and green roxs to it.  Maura was colored with watercolor pencils and then glittered with several shades of purple, blue and green. The background was chalked and little rain dots were added for bubbles.  Hope you like her.  : )

Taking Time to Enjoy Little Things

I have fibromyalgia which is an arthritis type of disease, among other health issues. Fibromyalgia  is tricky because you look fine but you aren't and you never know exactly what is going to hurt or how you are going to feel but you can manage it.  This weekend I had the worst flare up I have had in a long time and it just made me realize that even though I generally do stop and appreciate most little things I should make an effort to do it even more.  Just listening to the rain and watching it yesterday, having dinner with my family, watching a dragonfly fly all around, simple little things.  This is an image I absolutely love and it reminds me of this... the little girl looks so content. I would have bought this set just for this image. It is from Crafty Secrets and it is called Sweet Kids. The background was chalked and the image was colored with watercolor pencils.  I used green papers and pearls to accent this card. The only glitter used was a pearl turquoise on her dress and hat band.(hard to believe I know lol)   Flower Soft was used for the bottom ~ I thought it made it look like a field of flowers. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do : )

Faraway Moon ~ In A Sweet Pea Dream ~

This is another card I made using the incredible images from Sweet Pea stamps ~ Faraway Moon. The challenge is show us your dream... My dream is to find images that I love to color and that I can use all of my glitter and details on and I have found that in Sweet Pea's stamps. I simply love playing with these because you can put your own take on them and they come out so nicely. I also enjoy seeing what others have done with these great images as well.

Card Info ~ Background was chalked with pearlescent chalks. The main image was colored with watercolor pencils and then glittered in certain areas. Little pearls, rhinestones and glitter roxs were added. The background paper was made with my tattered angels glimmer sprays and I sprayed the sand dollar to match. Hope you enjoy her.

Why I Love Glitter : )

I have always loved glitter ... the way it shines and makes something that was dull so beautiful or more beautiful than it was before. There is definitely a technique to it too ... you have to have patience to work with a q-tip or toothpick to make little pieces of hair have glitter or to shape little lines of lace, well you get the picture.  And there are soooo many fabulous colors and types transparent, opaque, pearl and more coming out all the time.  My family tries to keep me away from anything shiny lol : )  Seriously though it is very relaxing for me to come into my craft room and work on a card or project.  Sometimes I just look around for ideas or at all the wonderful little treasures I have been lucky enough to accumulate.  I haven't done any new cards since yesterday since I am having a terrible fibromyalgia flare up right now so I will share this one since it has lots of glitter.  This image is from Sweet Pea Stamps it is ~Rising Flame~  If you like this image you should go over to Sweet Pea Stamps site http://www.sweetpeastamps.com/  they have some of the most awesome stamps.
Card Info ~ Colored with watercolor pencils then glitter added, the background was chalked with glitter chalks. Lots of little beads added to her headband.  Hope you enjoyed her : )

In A Sweet Pea Dream - Challenge One

This challenge was an absolute dream for me since I love coloring and decorating these beautiful images every chance I get. They work well for all the details I like to add like glitter, and rhinestones and other accents. Today I used one of the newest images ~ One and Only Heart ~ The background was chalked with shimmer chalks, She was first colored with watercolor pencils, then I added glitter and rhinestones and all the other little details. The background paper was handmade using my tattered angels glimmer sprays. The lace, flowers and rhinestones finish off this lovely girl. Hope you like her as much as I enjoyed creating her. : )
